"Venice - The Grand Canal" by James Alphege Brewer
Etching, ca. 1910, Ed. unknown, 5-1/8 x 8-1/4, signed and titled in pencil, on heavy cream wove J Head paper, a pale trace of mat line. Brewer was born in London to a family of artists. he spent most of his career based in Paris, and excelled at architectural subjects, in particular the churches found all over Europe. His prints feature a dramatic use of light with strong contrast of dark and light.
