Pen and Ink Wash Drawing, 1926, 8-1/4 x 5-1/2, Initialed BM lower right, signed again with 136 Keap St. Brklyn address in black ink verso, old rubber cement stains to margins recto, as is typical for the artist, on cream wove paper. Ben Mldwoff immigrated to New York early in the century, and married Lillian Berliawsky, sister of sculptor Louise Nevelson, in the mid 1940's. He became a successful glass manufacturer and designer of mid-century modern furniture, and noted collector of folk and contemporary art; the couple entertained many artist friends in their downtown Manhattan house through the decades until his passing in 1991.
