"Leaders Of Congress" by William Kent, (Amer., 1919-2012)
Color Slate Print, 1964, Ed. of 8 or more in various colors on japan paper and various fabrics, 28-7/8" x 17", here on warm white wove japan paper, signed, dated and annotated "mono print" by the artist in blue pen, a few small touches of stray ink, some tape stain and minor loss at edges of large margins where originally wrapped around old backboard. The print is based on a newspaper photo showing a press conference with from left: House Speaker McCormack, Senate President pro tem Hayden and Senate majority leader Mansfield following a meeting with President Johnson on U.S. security affairs. A seismic graph below the text seems to reflect the steady pulse of the nation; or at least no inbound missiles! Over 50 years later the subjects of Kent's prints remain fresh and relevant as when they were created. This is a particularly fresh and vibrant impression in fine condition.
