"Rooftops & Fire Escapes" by John Howard Benson, Amer., (1901-1956)
Transfer Lithograph, 1922, ed. unknown, 9-13/16 x 7-7/16, signed & dated in pencil, on thin cream parchment paper, with losses and tape residue to the tips of margin corners well away from image. Based in Newport, Rhode Island, John Howard Benson was trained in watercolor and printmaking, and achieved national renown for his lettering and stone cutting. He received many awards during his career and an honorary Master of Arts degree from Yale University. His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Cooper Union among others. His prints are not commonly encountered. This charming lithograph is ex.- coll. of the Slater Museum, Norwich, CT.
