White Line Color Woodcut, ca. 1930's, 10-15/16 x 8-3/4, ed. unknown, on ivory wove paper, signed in pencil. A student of Howard Pyle, Wuanita Smith studied at the Pennsylvania Academy and Art Students League. A painter and prolific printmaker, she traveled widely and experimented with many graphic processes, excelling in white line color woodcut, as with this unusual historical subject, showing General George Washington stoically braced against the cold with some of his troops during the harsh winter of 1777.
