"St. Anne's from South Main St. Waterbury, CT " by Edward J. Balthazar, Amer., (1890-1956)

Regular price $450

Etching, 1946, ed. possibly 100, 10-3/8 x 8-1/4, signed and dated 11/46 in the plate, on cream laid Montgolfier paper with small angled margins as printed; slight skinning recto top and side center margin edges from previous tape hinges, trace of mat line. A fine impression of this wonderful view by Balthazar of the old cars and bustling neighborhoods around Saint Anne's, some of which have been demolished, and some of which remain today. My own grandparents lived for many years on the other side of the block shown here to the left of their beloved church, recently designated as The Shrine of St. Anne. (Yes, being sentimental I own my own impression of this print.) Another impression of this print is in the collection of , and was exhibited in Waterbury's Mattatuck Museum's wonderful "Travelers Tales" exhibition in 2010; focused on the work of American printmakers with ties to Connecticut.
