Gaugengigl, r "Gaugy" as his friends called him, was a notable Boston painter and printmaker of the late 19th century known for his history paintings and portraits. "Adante" remains one of his most compelling prints, with it's romantic depiction of a cellist cloistered in his garret, lost in a musical reverie.
