"Untitled" by M. G. Martin, Amer., (1931-2013)
Color Linocut, 1962, Ed. 8, 11-1/4 x 23-7/8, on thin cream wove japan paper with typical irregular margins, signed, dated and numbered in pencil. Full of her trademark playful biomorphic life forms, M. G. Martin's work comments on the scientific and theoretical, the cosmos and the natural world. She was fascinated with evolution and diversity of life, especially the procreative generative force we share in common with every other living thing on our planet. In her work this fertility becomes a fitting metaphor for the role of the artist in society. One of the artist's most striking and larger early color prints, produced during her time frequenting Robert Blackburn's experimental printmaking workshop in New York City, where she produced many prints.
