Engraving, 1976, ed. of 16 (XX) plus a few artist proofs, of which this is one, 14-3/4 x 9-1/2, signed, dated, numbered & dedicated "to Nancy" in pencil, on Arches warm white wove paper, Small faint stain in right center margin. Werner Drewes was a prolific painter and printmaker equally adept at the difficult arts of engraving and color woodcut, and excelling in both. Drewes fought in WWI, traveled the world after, studied twice at the German Bauhaus with Kandinsky, Klee, Moholy-Nagy and Feininger; and was an early advocate for abstract art in America. Voracious for knowledge and experience, Drewes enjoyed a long, creative life and successful career as an artist and teacher in America.
