"Nation Is In Good Shape" by William Kent
Color Slate Print, 1964, Ed. of 8 or more, 28-7/8 x 17, on warm white wove japan paper, signed, dated and annotated mono print by the artist in blue pen, a few small touches of stray ink, some tape stain and minor loss at edges of large margins where originally wrapped around old backboard. The print is based on a newspaper photo showing a press conference with from left: House Speaker McCormack, Senate President pro tem Hayden and Senate majority leader Mansfield following a meeting with President Johnson on U.S. security affairs. A seismic graph below the text seems to reflect the steady pulse of the nation; or at least no inbound missiles. Over 50 years later the subjects of Kent's prints remain as fresh and relevant as when they were created. This is a particularly fresh and vibrant impression in fine condition.
