"Interplay" by M. G. Martin, Amer., (1931-2013)
Etching & Aquatint, 1962, Ed. of 6 only, 11-7/8 x 17-5/8, signed, titled, dated and numbered in pencil, on cream wove paper. substantial foxing to margins, barely affecting image. Printed at Bob Blackburn's Harlem Studio. Ms. Martin traveled to Italy on a Fulbright Fellowship Grant in 1959, and for many years was the Chair of the Art Department at the Westover School in Middlebury, CT. Her mature work is distinguished by playful inventions of organic form as seen here with many later compositions based on the bilateral symmetry she observed in nature. "Interplay" is one of an important group of early etchings and block prints she made from 1961-63 in the Blackburn Studio, all in small editions.
