"Mid-Afternoon, God's Acre" by Walter Dubois Richards, (Amer., 1907-2006)

Regular price $375
Lithograph, no date, Ed. 225, 10 x 14, signed, titled and numbered in pencil, on thick, cool white wove paper, minor pale traces of tape residue to top margin at  corners, slight surface loss top corner tips verso and recto,  tack holes to edges all around from the artist's drying process after printing. A well inked impression of this exquisitely detailed and richly tonal view of the historic church in New Caanan, CT. Richards made several lithographs of this church showing his mastery at rendering the changing light and shadows at different times of the day. One senses the glare from the low winter sun reflecting off the snow, well trodden after many sled runs by the local children. I fondly remember many similar sledding runs in my own Connecticut boyhood and suspect others will too.
