"La Vague (The Wave)" by N. Krishna Reddy, Indian, (1925-2018)
Color Etching, ca. 1963, Ed. of 80, signed, titled and numbered in pencil, 14-5/8 x 18-9/16, on cream wove paper. There is scattered foxing in the margins and a hint of water stain to the lower left corner. Krishna Reddy, born in India, and for many years in New York until his death in 2018, carried on the innovative legacy of his mentor Stanley William Hayter, and was the former co-director of Atelier 17 for many years. Reddy was the author of the important technical study and instructional text: "Simultaneous Color Viscosity Printing", the innovative technique pioneered by Hayter and carried to new heights by Reddy, in which complex color etchings are printed all at once from one plate instead of carefully registering and overprinting a separate intaglio plate for each color. This is a beautiful impression of this print, with a grand sweeping gesture, subtle color harmonies and intricate details.
