"Study II" by Inga Britta Mills, Amer., (1925-2018)
Color Etching and Aquatint, 1989, Ed. 5/8 of 8 plus a few AP's, 11-15/16 x 15-7/8, signed, titled, dated and numbered in pencil, on cream wove paper. The artist issued at least one other small edition with an entirely different color combination, and with a different title. I've found this to be a common practice for her, as she felt that different colors convey such different moods and associations, as well as re-orchestrating the "Push and Pull" as Hans Hoffman called it, between color and form in space. Inga Britta Mills studied in her native Sweden receiving a Baccalaureate in languages from Gothenburg University, and received both a B.A. and M.A. in Fine Arts from Montclair State University in New Jersey. She was an assistant to Dag Hammarskjold at the U.N., and also studied at the Art Students League and Tyler School of Art in Rome. She exhibited both in the U.S. and abroad, winning many awards; and her works are held in private collections in the U.S., Europe, Japan and Australia. Most of her prints were produced in very small editions, and are distinguished by their range of expression from boldly spontaneous gestural black and whites to formal geometric abstractions which explore the interactions of shape and color with intimations of landscape and architecture.
