"A Woodland Pasture" by R. Swain Gifford, (Amer.,1840-1905)
Etching, 1888, as published in American Art, 1889, by S. Walker & Co. Boston, plate 10-1/8 x 14, image smaller, ed. unknown but limited by subscription, on heavy cream laid paper, three binding staple holes to bottom margin, with attendant local creases and two small rust spots to middle staple holes. A tranquil pastoral scene by Gifford, known for his fine views of rural 19th century New England; here evoking a distinct Barbizon influence, with majestic trees providing shade for the cows resting on the scrubby ground.
