"Brooklyn Heights, Fulton St. El with Beecher Monument" by Mortimer Borne, Polish-Amer., (1902-1987)

Drypoint, 1949, ed. 39, not in B., 6 x 7-1/2, on cream wove paper, signed, titled & numbered in pencil. Mortimer Borne's early drypoints of New York Cityand surrounding area from the late 1920's-1940's are compelling in their slightly expressionist aesthetic and attention to detail, and deserve to be seen more often. A prolific printmaker and painter, his work is in the collection of several museums. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York holds a large collection of his prints.
