Three Trees by Norman Gorbaty, Amer. (1932-2020)
Pen and Bistre Ink Drawing, 2011, 13-13/16 x 19-7/16, sheet 16 x 21, signed and dated in ink lower right margin corner, on a full sheet of warm white laid WORTHY watermarked paper. A forceful and energetic drawing by Gorbaty, who was equally at home with painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. A student of Gabor Peterdi, Albers and Louis Kahn at Yale, Gorbaty forged a successful career as illustrator and graphic designer while raising a family. He never stopped working. At age 87 after a tragic home & studio fire, he'd begun to work again until his passing in 2020. His deep feeling for both living things and the forces of nature is evident in the decades long series of complex and elegant full sheet ink drawings he produced.
