"The Nature Lover" by William Kent, (Amer., 1919-2012)
Slate Print, 1958, printed 1966, Ed. of at least 5, on various fabrics, 16-3/4" x 24-7/8", signed, dated and annotated Artist's Proof in black ball point pen, on pale blue and pink floral fabric. Once removed from the present original mount, the sides may be brought much closer into parallel alignment. William Kent felt deep reverence and affection for, and was endlessly fascinated by the many fantastic forms of life which share our planet. He likewise felt great outrage and anger towards those who bulldozed complete habitats with no regard for the complex communities of life dependent on them for survival. Here, a menagerie of insects seem to return his affection, flocking to the outstretched hands of the artist seen at left in profile. A vibrant impression of this large, early print by Kent, one of a small series sharing the "Nature Lover" title.
