"Les Commiseret" by Jacques Beurdeley, Fr, (1874-1954)
Etching, ca. 1920, ed. 50, 6-5/16 x 10-9/16, signed in ink, on cream wove Arches paper. There is a hint of Whistler and Roussel in the cropping and frontality of this composition. No wonder, Beurdeley's framing of the figures in a doorway was also a familiar compositional device of Whistler's and Jacques Beurdeley's father Paul Beurdeley happened to be a good friend of Whistler.
