Broadway, by John Ross, Amer., (1921-2017)

Color Woodcut, 1957, Ed. 9/10, 15-1/8 x 19-1/8, signed, titled dated and numbered in pencil, on a cream japan paper. The image is in fine condition, but there is toning and considerable surface loss to the  margins and residue from an over mat where previously glued. These marginal issues aside, a fine, crisp impression of this stunning and very rare New York City subject. Ross's use here of the knothole and rings to print both moon and illuminated clouds is singularly effective and characteristic of his use of found materials and textures. Certainly one of Ross's greatest prints.
