"Market Day" by Marian Lerer, Amer., (1928-2017)
Regular price
$150
Lithograph, Ca. 1950's, Ed. unknown, 5-15/16 x 11-3/16, unsigned, on cream wove paper. While I could not find a reference to this store, it was possibly a local neighborhood institution for Lerer while growing up, as a Joseph Treegob resided at 4083 Landcaster Ave., Philadelphia in 1924, where Lerer later attended art school. Regardless, it is a charming print, full of amusing quirky details in the shop window, including a favored cat raiding the fish tank under a sign wittily proclaiming "We Have Wrigley's". Wriggly fish perhaps.... I had given this print the provisional title "Treegob's Variety" based on the prominent window sign upper center, but recently located an impression of this print with the artist's original title "Market Day"penciled in her own hand, hence now finally the correct title.
