The Brook, Woodstock NY by Moses Hyman, Amer., (1870-1956)

  Etching & Drypoint, 1942, Ed. unknown, 11-7/8 x  8, signed, titled and dated 42 in pencil, some handling creases and at bottom margin edge, on thin cream wove paper 14-5/16 x 10. A prolific and professional illustrator from the late 1880's who studied at the Art Students League and elsewhere, Moses Hyman was also a fine etcher specializing in both portraits and landscapes. This view of a brook in the artist's community of Woodstock features a strong composition yet sensitive rendering of detail with a dreamy, poetic feeling.
