"Robert F. Weir" by J. Alden Weir, Amer., (1852-1919)

Robert F. Weir, Drypoint, 1891, Ed. unknown, Z. 61, 7-15/16 x 6, a rare early first state lifetime impression, before the monogrammed signature in the plate upper right, signed J. Alden Weir by the artist in pencil, and notated "Uncle Rob" lower left margin by J. Alden Weir's daughter Caro, on thick cream oatmeal laid paper with small margins as issued, traces of old hinges and glue in margin corners verso. A particularly rich impression of this scarce and forceful portrait by J. Alden Weir of his half brother Robert F. Weir, who despite extant evidence of his own drawing skill, became an engineer rather than a painter. A historically significant Weir family association - legacy print, descended in the artist's family. Ex-coll. descendants of Caroline Weir Ely Smith.
