Going Home by Emil Armin, Amer., (1883-1971)

Woodcut, 1951, Ed. unknown, 5 x 5-15/16, slight toning to sheet within mat opening, signed, titled and annotated Art. Pr'f. and 2d St. in pencil, on cream laid paper. Armin created this print from scenes which touched him during a trip to Mexico, continuing a major theme first inspired by travels to the southwest in 1928. By the age of 30  Armin had studied with George Bellows and attended the Chicago version of the 1913 Armory Show, fueling his ascendance as a leader in the development of modernist painting in Chicago. Emil Armin's prints are in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, and an extensive selection of his woodcuts is held by the Art Institute of Chicago, where he studied in his youth. Armin worked as an easel painter on the WPA, the Illinois Art Project, taught at Hull House, and was a long time distinguished founding member of several Chicago art organizations.
