"Amoureuse", (She's in Love) by Henri-Gabriel Ibels, Fr., (1867-1936)
Regular price
$250
Lithograph, 1893, Ed. of 50, from Melodies Illustraties, 1892-93, a proof before letters, according to a barely visible inscription in the bottom margin, 10-9/16 x 7-1/16, diagonal soft crease running across top left of print running through lowest flower on potted plant in window, on smooth, grayish wove paper. Impressions of these prints were also issued with stenciled color. As brutal and uncomfortable as this scene of domestic abuse is, the artist's ironic title also serves to remind us that "fatal attractions" have sadly been around for a very, very long time.
