"Waterfall" by Joseph Zenk, Amer., (1904-2000)
Color Woodcut, 1954, from the ed. of 50 for Collectors of American Art, Inc., (there was also an ed. of 15 published by the artist), 11 x 7-1/2, signed and titled in pencil, on thin cream wove japan paper, lightly toned in mat opening, traces of tape residue to corners from original mount, one spot of foxing to left of signature in bottom margin. Zenk was an important New Hope Modernist, who in the 40's formed Studio 74 with Louis Schanker to exhibit their color woodcuts. Zenk's work is highly regarded and has been featured in exhibitons including the Brooklyn Museum, National Academy, the National Museum of American Art, St. Louis Art Museum and San Francisco Museum of Art.
