"Woman with Rose" by Frederick M. Spiegle, Amer., (1865-1942)
Regular price
$250
Etching & Drypoint, 1890, ed. unknown, Pub. by C. Klackner, NY, image 9-5/8 x 7-1/2, signed in pencil, on thin cream chine colle with a thick white wove support sheet, with a few spots of foxing to the outer edges of the chine and support sheet, which may have been trimmed. Spiegle's images of the fairer sex emote a 19th century gentility with equal parts of sentiment and innocence. Although today they might not be smiled upon as feminist icons, they remain a sincere tribute to feminine beauty, and can still charm and beguile.
