"Organic Abstraction in Purple Blue and Green" by John B. Hermansader, Amer., (1915-2004)
Color Silkscreen, ca. 1960, ed. very small or unique, 13 x 10-1/2, initialed in pencil, on smooth cream wove paper. Rare. John Hermansader was a designer, painter, printmaker and art restorer. In the 1940's-50's he designed many record covers for blues and jazz artists, and had a large collection of their music in his West Redding, Connecticut studio. Friendly with the artist Ernest Roth, who lived not far away, Hermansaeder preferred a modernist vision in contrast to the older artists' more tradfitional work. His prints I've seen so far do not seem to have been issued in formal editions, his interest apparently focused on process and experimentation. They exist in at most a few proofs each.
